Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says evidence at the scene where a body was found this morning indicates a homicide.

The body of a young African-American female found this morning at Sterling Middle School shows signs of homicide.

"It was clearly a homicide," Peoria county Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said.

"That is based on evidence at the scene and the injuries."

Ingersoll said the young female victim was found on the pavement in a parking lot behind the school, at 2315 N. Sterling, at about 5:45 a.m. by a school maintenance man.

"She has not yet been idenitifed," Ingersoll said.

"That work is on-going."

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Ingersoll said because the police investigation is still ongoing she could not reveal what evidence led to her conclusion of homicide, or the nature of the victim's injuries.
