Advocate Eureka Hospital will present “Don’t Let Stroke Pull a FAST One on You,” a free, interactive stroke education event, from 6–8 p.m. May 5, in the hospital lobby, 101 S. Major St.

Advocate Eureka Hospital will present “Don’t Let Stroke Pull a FAST One on You,” a free, interactive stroke education event, on Thursday, May 5, from 6 pm – 8 pm in the hospital lobby, 101 S. Major Street, Eureka.

Dr. Shane Fogo, a family practitioner with Advocate Medical Group – Eureka, and Advocate Medical Group neurologist Dr. Sunil Chauhan, will discuss information about stroke risk factors, signs and symptoms.  Also, a member of an area stroke support group will discuss life as a stroke survivor, and participants can visit informational displays from various Eureka Hospital departments and the neurosciences unit at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.  Refreshments will be provided.

Around 795,000 Americans suffer a new or recurring stroke each year.  It is the third leading cause of death in the US, behind heart disease and cancer.  On average, someone dies of a stroke every four minutes.  Knowing risk factors and responding quickly to warning signs and symptoms can help reduce a stroke's impact.

The event is sponsored in part by a grant from the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network.

The event is free, but pre-registration is requested.  For more information or to register, call (toll free) 800-323-8622.
