The Woodford County Historical Society has completed proofreading of the book honoring veterans and have returned it to the publisher for printing.
Woodford County Veterans: Respect and Remember is a compilation of over 5,000 veterans who have served in any military capacity from the Revolutionary War to the present.
About a third of the entries were submitted by the veterans themselves or by their family and friends. The remainder were culled from historical books, obituaries, scrapbooks, and memorial plaques.
“Although 5,000 seems like a lot, we suspect that there are at least that many who are not represented in the book,” editor Karen Fyke said. “It makes us sad to know there are so many who are worthy of being included in the book, but who didn’t get included for one reason or another.”
The Society will be collecting information on the “missing” veterans and will publish an addendum at a later date.
The Society had a little over a week to proofread the 400-page book. A call for volunteers was made and the final crew was Betty Wettstein, Lew March, Barbara Bradle, Karen Fyke and Jim Fyke.
Pre-publication orders at a discount are being taken by the Society. The pre-publication price is $50 on orders received by the Society by June 15. After that date the books will cost $55.
Patrons can either pick the book up in person, or the book(s) can be mailed to them at a cost of $7 for one book and $4.50 for each additional book.
To order a book, send a check to WCHS, 112 N. Main, Eureka, IL 61530. Be sure to include a telephone number or email address.
