With continuing extreme heat affecting roadway pavements throughout the state, the Illinois Department of Transportation is urging motorists to
drive carefully and be alert for unexpected potholes or buckling.
There have been approximately 30 incidents of pavement failure due to high temperatures in the last two weeks on the state highway system, with several
more occurring Friday afternoon. The Illinois Department of Transportation is dispatching maintenance crews to identify possible pavement
blowouts and make the necessary repairs.
While repairs typically are completed within a few hours, pavement breaks can cause driving hazards that are impossible to predict.
Motorists who encounter such hazards are advised to call local police, 911 or 1-800-452–IDOT (4368).
