The Germantown Grille is reopened in Germantown Hills with new management.
Now at the helm is Sarah and Jake Adkins, who have been in the restaurant business for most of their lives.
“I have worked at Monical’s Pizza for about 10 years,” Sarah said. “I was manager there. He worked at Kouri’s in Pekin. For a while, he was the general manager there. We’ve been in it since we were 16.”
The pair had talked about owning a business before, but the Grille is the first time something opened up at the right price.
“We were just looking online one day and stumbled across it,” she said. “It’s always been something that we’ve thought about doing. We were kind of looking around one day and the price seemed right, so we went with it.”
This isn’t the first time they’ve been to Germantown. While they currently live in Morton, Sarah’s mom lived in the area. She added that they plan to move to the area in a few years once things settle down with the business.
While the outside looks the same, the inside of the Grille is going through changes in both menu and atmosphere.
On the menu, burgers, wraps, pizza and salads have been added.
“We added wings that they didn’t have on there before also,” Jake said.
However, don’t think everything is new on the menu.
“We’re keeping the favorites, which are the Reuben and the tenderloin,” he said.
They added that the cooks in the back are the same, so the recipes will stay the same as well.
In addition to the menu change, Sarah added that there will be daily lunch and dinner specials, as well as drink specials.
Also being changed up inside is the theme, which will become more of a sports bar.
“We’ve already added five flat screens and we’ve put three tall tables in here,” Jake said. “We’re going to try and get some other new tabletops to match. Get some sports-themed stuff in here. Get some neon and get some jerseys to make it more of a sports bar.”
While an official reopening is planned for Thursday, the Grille had a soft opening on July 31.
“It went really well,” Jake said. “Our bartender said it was the busiest Tuesday she had seen in six months. We did no advertising either; it was all word of mouth. For as busy as it was, we plan on getting a lot busier, so I told her to be ready.”
On Thursday, the grand reopening will start with a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. After that, there will be specials going on throughout the day, Sarah said, as well as some handouts.
