  • The Central Illinois Civil War Dance Society Performers, sponsored by the Metamora Courthouse, are recruiting additional dancers to join their group that performs period dances from the early to mid-1800s, including some that were danced at the Lincoln inaugurals.
     Practices are open to the public and are held at 6:30-8:30 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays in the second floor courtroom of the Metamora Courthouse State Historic Site, 113 East Partridge Street, Metamora.
    Costumed performances occur year round at schools, nursing homes, museums, and at various events throughout Central Illinois.
    The group has performed several times at the Old State Capitol and the the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield. A free performance is scheduled to be at the Snyder Village SV Center, 6:30 p.,m. Sept. 10, and the public is welcome to attend.

    People 17 years or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, initially. People older than 94 must have a note from their doctor.
    All ages are welcome to try out.
     The performers usually do not charge a fee for not-for-profit groups within a fifty mile radius of Metamora. For-profit organizations are charged $250 per hour plus mileage. Any fees earned are given to the Woodford County Historical Society - Metamora Courthouse Fund for the care and restoration of this Lincoln site.
