The Economic Development Council for Central Illinois is seeking public comment on the five-year Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) document.
This document describes a series of goals and projects to enhance the economy of the four county economic development district for Mason, Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties. Additionally, the CEDS document includes the economic development strategy for Logan County as a district boundary modification is currently in process to add them to the economic development district.
The CEDS includes the following components:
· An analysis of economic factors affecting the region, such as demographics, employment trends, and environmental constraints.
· Regional economic strengths and challenges
· Economic goals and objectives for the future of the region
· A strategy, including potential projects, for building on the region’s assets, overcoming weaknesses, and taking advantage of opportunities
· Performance measures to evaluate progress toward goals and objectives
A CEDS is required for municipalities to be eligible for the Public Works and Economic Development Program and Economic Adjustment Assistance program. Projects that may be eligible include infrastructure improvements for specific sites, revolving loan funds, building projects, and workforce development. For a project to be eligible for these funds, it must be consistent with an approved CEDS and must be designed to overcome an obstacle identified in the CEDS.
The CEDS document has been reviewed and accepted by the following regional groups to date:
· Economic Development Council for Central Illinois Board of Directors
· Regional Economic Development Strategy Technical Working Group
· CEDS Small Working Group
