Joan Miller Flanegin, 92, retired in Annapolis, Md., formerly of Yates City, died on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012.
She was born in Metamora on May 25, 1920. She attended the Academy of Our Lady and went on to Dickenson’s Secretarial School in Peoria.
She worked in Peoria and for the FBI in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco before marrying Hurff Cratty Flanegin on Dec. 28, 1946. They were happily married for 25 years, residing in Texas, Alaska, Missouri and finally to the family farm in Yates City, where they raised seven children.
Widowed in 1972, Miller worked at various law offices in Illinois then relocated to Washington, D.C., working for the American Bar Association from 1976 until retirement in 1988. After retiring, she moved to Annapolis, Md.
She is survived by one sister, seven children, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many beloved relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, with the Rev. Mark Graham officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow the funeral in Elmwood Township Cemetery.
