The first “Das Bier Run” 5K Run, in conjunction with the Oktoberfest in Peoria Riverfront Park, will be at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 23.
The run begins at 12:30 p.m. and starts north of the Gateway building on the Peoria Riverfront.
The race is being sponsored by the Peoria Jaycee, the Peoria German-American Society and the Peoria Park District.
Races have been part of Oktoberfests since they were started in the early 1800s. At that time, though, it horse racing and not foot races.
The registration fee is $30.
All participants will receive 2 tokens for either beer or soft drinks after the race as well as free admission to the Oktoberfest on the day of the race.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to dress up in Oktoberfest attire for this fun Fall event.
Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Shriners Transportation Fund.
This fund helps families with the costs of transporting children to and from the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
