• Eureka volleyball falls to Greenville

  • The Eureka College volleyball team resumed St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, losing a 25-16, 25-11, 25-15 decision to first-place Greenville, followed by a 25-20, 25-15, 17-25, 25-22 defeat to host MacMurray in Jacksonville.
    In Saturday's first match against Greenville, junior outside hitter Peyton McAtee (Morton/Morton H.S.) delivered eight kills, while junior setter Eileen Bollinger (Custer Park/Reed-Custer H.S.) had 12 assists. Senior libero Courtney Kincaid (Green Valley/Midwest Central H.S.) compiled 14 digs.
    Bollinger provided 16 assists and three aces in the second match of the afternoon against the Highlanders. McAtee and senior outside hitter Kelli Dunne (Peoria/Richwoods, Ill./Illinois Central) tacked on seven kills apiece. Senior outside hitter Shari Steidinger (Forrest/Prairie Central H.S.) anchored Eureka's defensive effort with five blocks, and Kincaid tacked on 31 digs.
    MacMurray's victory, its first over the Red Devils since Oct. 14, 2008, snapped a string of seven consecutive wins by the Red Devils in the all-time series between the two schools.
    Saturday's losses dropped the Red Devils to 2-16 overall and 2-5 in the SLIAC.
    Eureka continued league Tuesday night at Blackburn at 7 p.m.
    Eureka swept the Beavers in St. Louis on Sept. 15.
