Obituary: Karen Forbes, 67, Morton

Karen M. Forbes, 67, of Morton, passed away at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born April 29, 1945, in Muskegon, Mich., to John and Matilda (Schriemer) DeVries, she married David Forbes on Oct. 25, 1969, in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Surviving are her husband of Morton; two sons, John (Brenda) Forbes, Ed.D. of Fresno, Calif., and Andrew (Maria) Forbes, M.D. of Indianapolis; one daughter, Katherine Forbes of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; and one sister, Kathleen (Jack) Phillips of Conklin, Mich.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

She graduated in 1967 from the University of Michigan with a BS in Pre-Med.

Karen was employed as a medical technologist for 40 years, last working in the laboratory as a general supervisor at Pekin Hospital. She retired in 2012.

She was a member of Grace Church in Morton and did volunteer services within the church.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Church in Morton, with the Rev. Tim Bertsche officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, both at Grace Church in Morton. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
