Peoria - Peoria County's Emergency Management Agency and the City/County Health Department are participating in this year's "Great Central U.S. Shake Out." Participants of this simulated earthquake drill will Drop, Cover, and Hold On at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 7. The "ShakeOut" is an annual opportunity for individuals and companies to practice how to be safe during an earthquake and to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies.
The Great Shake Out is a world-wide earthquake preparedness exercise, with drills in differing countries and regions throughout the year. The Central U.S. region includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Iowa. In 2012, 2.4 million people participated in the Central U.S. drill; currently, over 840,000 have registered to participate this year.
