  • Woodford grand jury indicts two in child sex abuse cases

  • EUREKA — In two separate cases, a Woodford County grand jury indicted two men on a total of 12 felony counts related to sexual abuse of a minor.
    Brian V. Bowald, 50, of 1531 County Road 800 North was charged with five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
    The grand jury also indicted Ronald T. Franz, 61, of 536 N. Chestnut St. in Minonk on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
    Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child is a Class X felony, punishable by as many as 60 years in prison. The maximum sentence for aggravated criminal sexual abuse is seven years.
    Bowald is accused of abusing a girl younger than 13, as is Franz. In Bowald's case, the abuse is alleged to have taken place between January 2010 and last month. For Franz, the time frame regarding the allegations is between May and September 2012.
    Bowald posted 10 percent of a $500,000 bond. Franz is being held in the Woodford County Jail on $100,000 bond.
