The Illinois Central College Readers’ Theatre cast, along with the Peoria Ballet and the family of former Peoria Mayor, Jim Maloof, will join forces to showcase their talents and raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Riverside Community Church, 714 Hamilton Blvd., in Peoria, will host the one-night-only event, “A Celebration of Mayor Maloof’s Legacy to the Arts,” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 12.
Community members are invited to attend this special event. Admission is free, although ICC students—both past and present—will assist during intermission in collecting from audience members donations to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Peoria.
The itinerary for the evening includes “sneak-peek” dance sequences from the upcoming Peoria Ballet production of Snow White, a complete performance of the ICC Readers’ Theatre, entitled, “It’s OK 2 B U!”, and special vocal stylings from Maloof’s granddaughters and former ICC Readers’ Theatre cast members, Markie and Michy Maloof. The evening is sure to entertain audiences of all ages and will highlight Maloof’s involvement in both the arts and in the founding of St. Jude in the Peoria area. Former Mayor Jim Maloof passed away on Jan. 19.
Nineteen students, representing a wide array of ICC’s programs of study, will perform during the evening’s final show of the ICC Readers’ Theatre 2013 bus tour. Special guests will include representatives from St. Jude, as well as former and current patients who have benefitted from the hospital’s research and treatments.
