EUREKA — Cyril A. "Bill" Vander Pas, 83, of Eureka died 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Maple Lawn Health Care Center in Eureka.
Born Sept. 19, 1929, in Little Chute, Wis., to William and Marie Coonen Vander Pas, he married Wanda E. "Betty" Drefs of Eureka Sept. 1, 1951, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eureka. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James (Elise) Vander Pas of Sparta, N.J., and William (Kristin) Vander Pas of Olathe, Kan.; one sister, Geraldine Biersteker of Springfield, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers and four sisters.
An Army veteran, he served his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the Eureka American Legion Post 466.
He worked for Montgomery Ward as a retail merchandiser for 42 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1952 and had served as elder, secretary, treasurer, trustee and Sunday school superintendent.
He was also a member of the Eureka Sportsman Club.
He was a charter member of America's Pack, a member of the Central Illinois Packer Backers and a charter member of Packer Partners.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. April 1, 2013, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eureka. The Rev. Joe Burns will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Chapel Mausoleum at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, Wis.
Memorial contributions may be given to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eureka.
