  • Over the years, Grey's Anatomy has seen its fair share of new characters - like a real hospital, there's a revolving door of incoming interns and outgoing residents. Hate them or love them, this season's interns have taken on more prominent roles. We've already shared our, ahem, opinions on the polarizing quintet, but with the ABC medical drama heading towards its ninth season finale, we're reexamining each intern to decide whether they should stick around next season.
Grey's Anatomy: Cristina and Owen to tackle the baby question once again
Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton): She has seamlessly been able to infiltrate the core group by... well, sleeping with one of them. Her fling with Jackson (Jesse Williams) has been a fun story line that recalls the early days when both Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) were sleeping with their own attendings. Now, of course, the shoe is on the other foot. But fans of April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson have been very vocal about getting that pair back together, sending their vitriol in Stephanie's direction, which could mean she'll fall victim to being the other woman. But that potential story line could be a fun respite from a season otherwise dominated by the sale of the hospital. Consensus: Keep her, for now.
Shane (Gaius Charles): Shane's story line has taken him on an overly competitive path, which is totally normal by Grey's Anatomy standards. And hey, interns should strive to be the best. But unlike the Fab Five's formative years - where we actually rooted for Cristina to outdo the other interns - Shane just seems whiny and overly sensitive. It's not personal, Shane, it's business. Don't go to the mattresses because you're inept at neurosurgery. Find another specialty. Or find a new job. Consensus: Ditch him.
Page 2 of 3 - Jo (Camilla Luddington): Jo has slowly become less annoying. She started off the season as this weird amalgamation of Meredith in her younger years, George (T.R. Knight) in his 007 days and Izzie (Katherine Heigl)... well, all the time. But once she stopped crying in the halls, the writers decided to pair her with Alex (Justin Chambers), a slow progression during which both the writers and the characters were testing the waters of a possible relationship. For a brief period before that kicked off, she and Alex were buddies vowing to keep it that way - and we enjoyed that part! See, everyone else on Grey's has had epic love. Alex, however, has had epic heartbreak over and over and over again. If anyone is going to be his "person," it needs to be someone who is more worthy and not in a relationship of convenience. Consensus: Ditch her.
Mega Buzz: Who's returning to Grey's Anatomy?
Leah (Tessa Ferrer): It's hard to form a real opinion about Leah. She's had so few story lines this season other than briefly sleeping with Alex when he was man-whoring with all the interns, and nearly being fired for what turned out to be Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) mistake. Maybe flying under the radar will be the thing that saves Leah for another season. Consensus: Keep her.
Heather (Tina Majorino): Heather has actually been the least troublesome of all the interns this season. She's found a fun rapport with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith, whose pregnancy she discovered early on in the season. She also acted as Meredith's spy when they quit Seattle Grace - both story lines led to a wealth of comedy. Consensus: If Majorino hadn't signed on to a TNT pilot, we'd actually hope they bump her up to a series regular. We'll see!
