  • Illinois Central College has named Karrie Redeker as its new head women’s basketball coach, the fourth in the program’s history. Redeker is slated to replace Cindy Stein, who resigned earlier this month for the head coaching position at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
During her six- year tenure as head women’s basketball coach at Parkland College (Champaign), Redeker led the Cobras to three Region 24 titles and advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament three times. Each of those national appearances earned the team respectable finishes of third (2010-11), sixth (2009-10), and fourth (2008-09). Redeker’s teams have compiled an overall record of 158-45. Her Parkland teams have completed six consecutive 20-win seasons.
She also served as girls’ basketball coach at Unity High School (Tolono) from 1999-2007, where the Rockets earned a 158-62 record and won five regional titles. Redeker played collegiately as an undergrad at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where she was a four-year letter winner.
During her time playing at SIUC, she helped advance the Salukis to a Gateway Conference Title and two NCAA appearances. Redeker was an Honorable Mention All-Gateway Conference selection in 1992 and is the career leader in three-pointers made at the college. She grew up in rural Crescent City, where she still holds the all-time leading scorer for boys and girls at Crescent-Iroquois High School.
In 2005, Redeker was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She also earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Eastern Illinois University.
"Karrie will bring a wealth of coaching experience to ICC and is familiar with our region as well as the national tournament experience, with three trips to nationals in the past six years,” ICC Athletic Director Sue Sinclair said. “We look forward to welcoming her to the Cougar family."
“We think Coach Redeker will be a great addition to ICC athletics,” said ICC Vice President of Student Affairs Guy Goodman. “With her track record of success at the regional and national levels, we believe that the ICC women’s basketball program and its rich tradition will be in good hands.”
