PEORIA — An equipment malfunction caused an hour and 20 minute power outage in Germantown Hills and Metamora Tuesday.
The outage began at 2:10 p.m. and lasted until 3:30 p.m., affecting 2,635 customers in Metamora and Germantown Hills.
The stoplight at the intersection of Niles and Mount Vernon Streets in Metamora was out. A police squad car sat at the light during the outage.
Ameren Illinois spokesperson Stacey Shangraw said a wire on top of a substation malfunctioned to cause the outage.
Shangraw said she could not release the substation's location for security reasons.
Though the rainy weather has continued in the area, Shangraw said she could not say if the weather caused the wire to malfunction.
"It's difficult to say," she said. "At this point we don't have verification as to what caused it."
