Mistwood Golf Club, one of the premier golf facilities in the Chicago area, has been recognized as one of the top remodeled courses by Golf Digest in 2013.
The recognition appeared online in November on golfdigest.com by Ron Whitten. Mistwood joined Medinah No. 1 as the only Chicago courses listed.
"To be recognized by Ron Whitten, who is one of the leading authorities on golf course architecture, and to be alongside so many great courses is very gratifying," said Mistwood owner Jim McWethy. "I couldn't be happier with the work that Ray Hearn did on this project and now I believe that we have one of the top golf experiences in the Chicago area."
The long-time home of the Illinois Women's Open, Mistwood closed early the last two years enabling Michigan-based golf course architect Ray Hearn, the course's original designer, to complete his renovation work and make strategic improvements to the course. The major improvements involved performing renovation work on each of Mistwood's 18-holes in terms of shot value and strategy.
Mistwood's renovation also included the addition of 20 stacked sod-wall bunkers. These unique and impressive bunkers are not seen in traditional American golf, but they are a trademark hazard for courses in Scotland and Ireland.
