  • Wrestlers get wins from road weekend

  • The Metamora Township High School grapplers went up against Normal West on the mat Thursday for a 39-24 win.
     
    Junior Lucas Munter earned Metamora’s only pin against N-West at 3:58.
     
    Senior captain Matt Rettig and juniors Ryan Brooks and Josh Bernius won by decisions.
     
    The Redbirds then went up against Rockford East in a dual match at Belvidere for a 39-26 victory.
     
    Senior Rick Hosbrough won by pin in the 285-lbs. division at 1:01 over R-East’s Elijah Brady.
     
    Rettig won by pin over Ben Wicklund at 54 seconds. Sophomore Max Ward won by pin over Fabian Mandujano at 3:44 and Brooks won by pin over Dylan Beard at 2:00.
     
    Senior captain Kyle White won in the first sudden victory over Gunnary Morris, 3-1.
     
    Munter grabbed a decision win over Jacob Posch, 14-7 and Bernius won by decision over Alex Wilkinson, 9-5.
     
    On the last day of the three-day run, Metamora competed in the Giardini Varsity Invitational at Rockford East.
     
    White won a first place finish in the 138-lbs. division with an 8-6 decision over Lamart Burres of Rolling Meadows.
     
    Bernius earned a second-place position in the 170-lbs. division after defeating Levi Warner of Geneseo but lost to Nick Whitehead of Zion Benton in the final.
     
    Rettig took a third-place victory in the 160-lbs. divsion  after a pin on Eric Chalup of Rolling Meadows at 27 seconds.
     
    Junior Jared Ambrosch grabbed a fourth-place position from a pin on Anthony Petitti of Guerin at 1:59 to get to the quarter finals.
