Full House star Candace Cameron Bure is opening up about her struggle with bulimia in the years after the beloved sitcom went off the air.
"Clearly it wasn't a healthy way to deal with things," Bure told Omg! Insider of her eating disorder, which started after she married Canadian hockey player Valeri Bure in 1996 and moved to Montreal. "That's really when my faith was kicked up a notch, and I sought comfort in my relationship with God and not with food."
Bure, 37, says it is because of her family and those she worked with on Full House that she did not suffer from an eating disorder until later in life. "I think I was very protected by my parents and the producers. They all had a sensitivity about it," she said. "Even the one episode of Full House where D.J. goes on a crash diet for a few days ... they asked me would I feel comfortable doing an episode about that."
Since her time on Full House, Bure has starred on Make It or Break It. She and her husband have three children. Bure's new book, Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose, comes on Jan. 1.
