The Salvation Army is approaching the final days of its red kettle portion of its Tree of Lights Campaign and continues to get help from area businesses. With cold and wet weather slowing the momentum at the kettles this past week, Zanfel Laboratories, a Peoria business, has again stepped up — sending a challenge to the community to help fill kettles on the last two days of kettles, Dec. 23-24. Zanfel will match kettle donations up to $10,000. (A normal kettle day is about $6,200- hence the two days- up to a total of $10,000- not $10,000 each day. “The message is clear – any gift you give to The Salvation Army for two days will do double the good,” said Major Evie Diaz, divisional commander. “The kettles have been running about 20 to 30 percent behind previous years, but an outpouring of generosity now can help turn things around in these waning days.” This is the fourth time that Zanfel Laboratories has participated in such a match for the Peoria Salvation Army, and The Salvation Army is again grateful for the support. “We appreciate all the local support, but Zanfel Laboratories has again gone above and beyond with this match for the last two days of kettles,” said Rich Draeger, assistant development director. “We hope folks can get out and help us at the red kettles.” Kettles will be out all day through 4 p.m. Dec. 24. Additonally, there will be a second Bears-Packers Kettle Challenge from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tuesday at Bass Pro in East Peoria. The Tree of Lights Campaign has raised $925,000 to date and even though the kettles end December 24th, the entire campaign goes through the end of January.
