Pekin, IL Dec. 26, 2013 – Parents of pre-school and kindergarten aged children have the opportunity to jump-start their child’s education by signing them up for a winter session of Pekin Park District’s Mighty Mighty Writing Club.
The Mighty Mighty writing club is a developmentally appropriate program, designed by a certified teacher, using research-based curriculum, to teach and reinforce excellent hand-writing skills in young children.
Students become engaged in the lessons which integrate music, dance, and games with the writing activities. All activities will promote fine motor skills and teach effective strategies for letter formation, number and letter fluency, pencil grip and much more!
Early registration is encouraged, as class sizes are limited to 12 students per class. Parents are welcome to participate also and share in the handwriting experience.
The program is instructed by Kristen Walraven, Principal of Monroe Elementary School, Bartonville.
Classes are held on Saturdays, Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25, and Feb. 1, and 8. Pre-school aged children may attend the 9-9:45 a.m. session, and kindergartners may attend the 10 to 10:45 session. The registration fee for the six class series is $42. The workshops will be held at the park’s Soldwedel Program Center located just off Route 98, adjacent to McNaughton Park, and the Rockin’ “P” Riding Stables. To register, call 347-PARK (7275). In the event of inclement weather programs may be cancelled (and re-scheduled). To check for cancellations call the parks and recreation department at 477-3535, two hours prior to the program.
