The Metamora wrestling team held its annual holiday tournament Dec. 21 and took sixth place out of the 16 schools present. The Redbirds earned one first, second and fourth place finshes and two third and fifth place spots. Kyle White grabbed Metamora’s only first place title in the 138-lbs. division with a 9-7 win over Michael Triplett of Normal-West. Matt Rettig took second place in the 152-lbs. division after defeating Jacob Elsbury of Byron with a 3-0 decision, but lost to Traevon Wilson of Danville, 6-3. In the 182-lbs. division, junior varsity grappler Kenny Wells placed second after a pin by Evan Betz of East Peoria. Jared Ambrosch earned third place in the 182-lbs. division after defeating Tallen McWilliams of Galesburg with a pin at 1:36. In the 170-lbs. division Josh Bernius earned a third place spot after defeating Geoffrey Miller of Eureka in a 5-3 decision in overtime. Rudy Munter earned fifth place in the 120-lbs. division after a pin on Juan Menchaca of Peoria High School at 48 seconds in the consolation round. Ryan Brooks earned fourth place in the 113-lbs. division and Alec Meronk earned fifth place int he 106-lbs. division after a pin on Antonio Rodriguez of Richwoods at 2:22. East Peoria High School took first place with Byron right behind in second and Normal West coming in at third.
