The following roads have reopened, according to an Illinois Department of Transportation spokesman:
Driving will remain hazardous this evening as many state routes are still snow and/or ice covered. IDOT crews will work through the night and as long as is necessary to clear the roads.
- Illinois Route 17 from Lacon city limits to I-39 in Marshall County
- Illinois Route 98 from I-155 to Illinois Route 29 in Tazewell County
- Illinois Route 9 from east of Mackinaw to Illinois Route 122
The extremely low wind chills will make getting stranded a potentially dangerous situation. Fill up your gas tank, dress for the weather, and be sure to have an emergency kit in your vehicle if you choose to drive tonight.
Also, be aware that black ice is possible. Black ice forms on roads that appear clear and the unseen ice can be treacherous. If you must travel, take it slow when approaching intersections, off-ramps, bridges, and shady areas. All of these locations are prone to black ice.
