The Kroger Co.’s Central Division announced last week the results of its largest annual food drive, “Share Your Feast,” in support of regional food banks and local food pantries across the operating division. The food drive ran from Nov. 1-Dec. 24. Each of Kroger Central Division’s 136 Kroger, Scott’s, Pay Less and Owen’s stores was matched with a local food bank or food pantry. Kroger customers purchased pre-bag food in $3, $5 and $10 bags, totaling $156,082. In addition, Kroger customers donated cash in increments of $1, $3 and $5 totaling $75,128. Total proceeds for 2013 are $231,210 or 115,605 meals for hungry families in the local communities Kroger serves. “There is no cause more important than feeding our hungry neighbors, especially now as so many families are struggling,” Kroger Central Division Public Affairs Manager John Elliott said. “Even as we see signs of an improving economy, there are many local families who are hungry. This food drive benefits nine regional food banks and 69 local food pantries. It is truly heart-warming to see the generosity of our associates and our customers as they meet the need in our local communities.” The Kroger Co. has been serving local communities for 130 years. The Kroger Central Division has 136 food stores, 114 pharmacies and 79 fuel centers primarily in Indiana and Illinois.
