  • BLOOMINGTON (AP) — Authorities say traffic is moving again hours after a series of traffic collisions blocked Interstate 55 in central Illinois.
Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says nobody was hurt in the Friday accidents that were the result of motorists driving too fast in slippery and snowy conditions. The wrecks involved as many as 20 vehicles. They started when a semi-tractor trailer spun out of control on Interstate 55 near Bloomington.
Bond says the first accidents started shortly before noon. She says after the semi came to a stop, several cars slammed into it or other vehicles that had struck it. A second group of several vehicles then struck the first group of vehicles.
Bond says all but one lane was closed as emergency workers assisted drivers and cleared debris.
