The Metamora varsity wrestling team’s season wrapped up after its appearance at the Pontiac Sectional Friday and Saturday.
The Redbirds advanced six grapplers to the sectional after the East Peoria Regional Feb. 8.
Ryan Brooks, Kyle White, Lucas Munter, Matt Rettig, Jared Ambrosch and Josh Bernius all competed in the sectional.
In the 113-lbs. division, Brooks won his first match with a 1-0 decision over Larry Cozz of Lincoln.
He then faced Jeff Board of Rochelle in the quarterfinals of the consolation round to win with an 8-6 decision.
Brooks fell to Micah Krueger of Ottawa in a 3-2 decision. He finished the season with a 32-14 record.
White, in the 138-lbs. division, won his first bout with a 2-0 decision over Adam McConnell of Belvidere but fell in the quarterfinals.
In the consolation round, White won with a 5-0 decision over Trenton Brinkmeier of Dixon but fell to Patrick Crothers of Sandwich in the quarterfinals.
White finished the season with a 34-10 record.
Munter, in the 145-lbs. division, was defeated in his first two bouts in the sectional. His first opponent, Vaughn Hobart of Pontiac, won with a pin at 4:43.
In Munter’s second match in the quarterfinals of the consolation, he was defeated by Bryce Sandoval of East Peoria by pin at 2:44. He finished the season with a 22-17 record.
In the 152-lbs. division, Rettig, grappled his way to the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
Rettig won his first match with a 7-4 decision over Michael Ernster of Sycamore but was defeated in the quarterfinals.
In the first match of the consolation, Rettig’s opponent, Alec Freschi of LaSalle-Peru, was injured for a default win to Rettig. He won his next bout over Drew Foster of East Peoria with a 3-2 decision but lost to Matt Ryan of Lincoln, 3-0.
Rettig finished the season with a 33-14 record.
In the 170-lbs. division, Bernius fell in the first match to Tom Price of Kaneland. He won by a 5-1 decision over Chase Dietrich of IVC but fell to Brandon Dierkes of Marengo from a pin at 1:54.
Bernius wrapped up the season with a 31-17 dual record.
Ambrosch, in the 182-lbs. division was defeated in his first bout to Matt Pandocchi of Marengo and then by Paul Turner of Ottawa in a 7-0 decision. He finished the season with a 19-18 record.
