  • Alecia McClain is an adventurous spirit who likes new experiences, and now she has painting a mural to add to her list.
McClain’s lived in California and Paris and is attempting to move to Paris permanently, but her roots are in central Illinois.
McClain, 30, is currently staying with her mom in Morton, where she graduated from high school.
I don’t really have a permanent address. I basically sold everything. I’ve been living out of a suitcase since the fall of 2012. It’s kind of liberating in an awesome way,” she said.
McClain was in the spotlight Feb. 21 during an unveiling of a mural she painted at Illinois Central College in East Peoria.
While living in Paris over the summer, she said she saw an online ad seeking an artist to do the mural.
“I immediately wrote back because I was about a month from coming back from Paris. I thought it would be wise to get involved in a project,” she said.
McClain submitted some drawings and ICC officials liked them.
“I thought I was the only artist they were talking to. ... Then they said, ‘Well, we decided you’re the one.’ I thought I already had it. I guess I went into it like it was my project,” she said.
