  • Lady Redbirds continue to win

  • The Metamora varsity softball team picked up a pair of wins at the Freeport Lady Pretz Invite Saturday and another win against Streator.

    The Lady Redbirds sit even with a 4-4 record for the season.

  • The Metamora varsity softball team picked up a pair of wins at the Freeport Lady Pretz Invite Saturday and another win against Streator.
    The Lady Redbirds sit even with a 4-4 record for the season.
    Metamora 11, Streator 3
    Hosting Streator March 31, the Lady Redbirds had big innings at the beginning and closing of the game. 
    In the bottom of the first, Megan Hargis was on second and Kara Hartnett was posted on first when Abby Barrow hit a line drive double to center field to get Hargis in for a run.
    Mckinzie Marshall had the second RBI for the day off a ground out to the shortstop to get Hartnett in.
    Next up was Rachel Litviack singling to second base for Barrow to get a run in.
    A sacrifice bunt by Jackie DeJaynes put Litviack on third in position to score. Brooke Ahrends singled to center field to get Litviack across home to make it a 4-0 game going into the second.
    No runs were scored in the second but Streator came out in the third to put two runs on the board.
    A sacrifice fly put a Streator runner on third in for a run. Another run was scored on the next play after a single was knocked into left field. 
    Tjaden was able to get a strikeout to close the top of the third before any more runs were scored.
    Metamora was held on scoring in the third. Streator came out in the fourth to put another run in to make it a one run game at 4-3.
    In the bottom of the fifth, Barrow had an attempt to score but was out after a bunt by Litviack.
    Marshall was able to get across home plate when DeJaynes hit a grounder to the pitcher and Litviack followed with another run.
    In the sixth, the Lady Redbirds added five more runs to its winning score.
    A line drive to center field for a triple play by Barrow put Hargis and Hartnett across the plate. 
    Barrow got a run in with Marshall batting on the next play.
    Litviack got the last run for Metamora from a grounder by DeJaynes.
    Page 2 of 3 - The Lady Redbirds defense held Streator in the final inning.
    DeJaynes and Barrow finished with 3 RBIs apiece and four hits apiece. Litviack got across the plate three times.
    Tjaden pitched all seven innings for six strikeouts.
    Metamora 16, Richwoods 5
    Metamora grabbed an early lead against Richwoods and didn’t let go April 1 for a 16-5 win at home.
    The Lady Redbirds posted three runs in the first inning from Hargis, Hartnett and Barrow.
    In the top of the second, Marshall started the scoring with a run after Barrow grounded to center field.
    Hargis and Barrow scored right after then Tjaden, Litviack and DeJaynes got runs in to make it a 9-0 game.
    Jacki Daniel closed the scoring in the second after taking home on the last out.
    In the third, Hargis was up first and hit a homer over the left field fence on a full count.
    Barrow, Tjaden, Jade Cansino and Caroline Signa all put runs in before the end of the inning, making it 15-0.
    Richwoods was able to post three runs in the bottom of the third.
    In the fourth, Hartnett finished the scoring of the game for Metamora after Barrow flied out.
    Richwoods added two more runs in the fifth.
    Ahrends and Tjaden each had three RBIs for the game. Allison Guzman pitched the five innings. 
    Freeport 5, Metamora 0
    At the Freeport tournament Saturday, Metamora had one win and two losses.
    Against Freeport, Metamora fell 5-0 after seven innings
    The Lady Pretzels put up three runs in the first inning.
    Hargis had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the first but was out at home after Barrow hit a grounder to the shortstop.
    The game was scoreless until the sixth when Freeport added another two runs to its score.
    Hartnett and Hargis and two hits a piece. Guzman pitched the seven innings for five strikeouts.
     U-High 3, Metamora 2
    Page 3 of 3 - On the second game of the day, Metamora lasted eight innings but came up short, 3-2.
    U-High got one run in the top of the first to start the game and posted its second run in the third.
    The Lady Redbirds put two on the board right after when Barrow hit a line drive to center field to get Hargis and Hartnett across the plate.
    The Pioneers had its game winning run in the eighth.
    Barrow, Hargis and Tjaden all had two hits for the game with Tjaden pitching for 10 strikeouts.
    Metamora 9, Milledgeville 2
    Against Milledgeville, Metamora had a big fourth inning to boost them to a win.
    In the first, Barrow got the first run in off an error by the Lady Missiles.
    Daniel scored in the second and Milledgeville was able to get a run in right after.
    Litviak started the six-run rally in the fourth when Barrow grounded to the shortstop. Hargis was next to cross the plate and Hartnett followed.
    Marshall and DeJaynes closed the scoring for the game.
    Barrow led in batting with two hits and two RBIs. 
    Tjaden pitched three innings for three strikeouts and Boyer had one.
