  • The Metamora boys varsity tennis team had a successful week.
The Redbirds were undefeated in three duals with Dunlap, East Peoria and Quincy.
On Saturday, Metamora traveled to the Purple and Gold Invitational in Bloomington and tied for first place with St. Charles North.
    Metamora 9, Dunlap 0
Facing a tough Dunlap team, the Redbirds were able to stave off any losses and took the Mid-Illini Conference dual win.
“We played pretty well. Will had the big challenge of the night facing Victor Spolidorio. He did a really nice job,” coach Kelly Willard said.
“We were just a little bit sharper at all the other positions than them.”
William Koehrsen defeated the Dunlap freshman powerhouse Spolidorio in just two sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Mitchel Nguyen won his match over Joshua Han, 6-2, 6-0, and Ryan Willard defeated Ethan Dam, 6-2, 6-1.
Fletcher Koehrsen romped Matthew Siwicke for a, 6-1, 6-1, win.
Tyler Ngo won his match, 6-1, 6-3, over Atishay Oberoi and Nick Becker defeated Chris France, 7-5, 7-6.
In the doubles, each Metamora pair just needed two sets to knock out Dunlaps pairs.
Willard and Fletcher Koehrsen won their match, 6-3, 6-0, over Han and Dam.
Ngo and Becker went 7-5 in both sets to defeat Oberoi and Brogan Reitz and Michael Doublin and Trevor Lewandowski won theirs, 6-2, 6-3, over Siwicke and Austin Webb.

In a non-conference dual with Quincy High School, Metamora had another undefeated afternoon Friday.
“I like them because they’re always very solid and always know what
    they’re doing,” Willard said.
“Friday, that was the best match of the year so far. We were firing on all cylinders.”
Page 2 of 2 - Will Koehrsen allowed no games scored against him and Nguyen won his
    singles match in two sets.
Ngo and Willard also allowed no games scored in their singles matches.
In the doubles, Metamora just needed two sets in all its matches to earn the wins.
    Purple & Gold Invite
At the Purple and Gold Invitational Saturday in Bloomington, Metamora tied with St. Charles North for the championship title.
“That’s a nice tournament. It’s one that we look forward to it every year,” Willard said.
“Our singles guys carried us yesterday and the doubles guys did what they needed to do. They all got to their semifinals.”
Will Koehrsen earned his fourth consecutive championship at the invite in the No. 1 singles.
“First of all its ridiculous. You’re not supposed to win those championships as a freshman and sophomore. It was kind of a ridiculous accomplishment,” Willard said.
Will Koehrsen defeated his opponent in the championship match from Rockford Christian in two sets, 6-1, 6-0.
“He played the last match as clean as you could possibly hit a tennis ball,” Willard said.
