  • Metamora softball suffers two losses on road games

  • The Metamora varsity softball team received two additional losses to its record in week four.

    First, the Lady Redbirds traveled to Normal Community West for a 10-3 loss and then to Pekin for a Mid-Illini Conference loss, 5-4.

    First, the Lady Redbirds traveled to Normal Community West for a 10-3 loss and then to Pekin for a Mid-Illini Conference loss, 5-4.
    The game with Dunlap at home April 21 has been rescheduled for April 23 due to weather conditions.
    NCW 10, Metamora 3
    Although Metamora had the jump on NCW, the Wildcats had two big innings with five runs apiece to secure its win.
    Both teams went 3-up-3-down in the first inning.
    In the second, Metamora put in the first run of the game.
    Abby Barrow, leading off, knocked a line drive to right field to get on first.
    Barrow was then able to cross the plate after a line drive to center by Mckinzie Marshall. NCW closed out the inning with a strike out.
    Leading off in the third, Kara Hartnett sent one over the center field fence for her first home run of the season to make it a 2-0 game.
    The Wildcats responded with its first 5-run rally off four hits and one Metamora error.
    In the fourth, NCW went on its second 5-run rally off five hits.
    The Lady Redbirds were able to get one last run across the plate in the seventh.
    Marshall doubled from a fly ball to left field and two batters later, Hartnett hit a line drive to center to get Marshall home.
    Allison Guzman pitched for 2.1 innings for two strike outs and Tjaden closed the last 3.2 innings for one strikeout.
    Marshall and Hartnett led in hits with two apiece. Hartnett finished with two RBIs.
    Pekin 5, Metamora 4
    Against Pekin Thursday, the Lady Redbirds were defeated 5-4. It was the first loss to the Dragons since Pekin joined the M-I.
    Metamora put the first runs in but came up short in the long run.
    There was a scoring opportunity in the first with Tjaden on third but the Dragons got the drop on the next two batters to close the inning.
    Metamora followed up in the second to post its first two runs to the board.
    Page 2 of 2 - Brooke Ahrens singled to second off a fly ball to set her up for scoring. Chloe Harmen then grounded to second but a Pekin error put Ahrens on third.
    A hard ground ball to left field by Marshall and another Pekin error was enough to get Ahrens and Harman in for runs.
    The Dragons posted its first run in the third and followed with another in the fourth. In the fifth, Pekin gained the lead with another two crossing the plate.
    Metamora was held on scoring until the seventh with two runs to tie.
    Two Pekin errors allowed Hargis and Jacki Daniel on base. 
    A grounder by Jade Cansino put Hargis in for a run and Daniel on third.
    Harman, batting next, had a line drive to left field for Daniel to get across the plate.
    Pekin’s first at bat hit a triple to right field and up next, a ground ball to third base put the runner home for the win.
    Metamora out hit Pekin 11-8. Marshall, Ahrens and Tjaden had two hits apiece.
    Guzman pitched five innings for two strikeouts and Tjaden closed with two.
