  • Jo Crow was honored as Metamora Woman’s Club Woman of the Year at the May 17 Spring Brunch held at Metamora Christian Union Church. Linda Jones, Status of Women Chairman, presented Jo with a silver medallion featuring her name on one side and 2014 on the other.
After joining the GFWC IL Metamora Woman’s Club in 1970 shortly after she moved to Metamora, Jo has given the club the benefit of 44 years of service in several different community service departments, special committees and projects, as well as her leadership as President in 2003-05. She also has served as co-president on the district level, 2010-12, and represented the club during several state conventions, including this year. This past year she served as Club Chaplain and Chairman of the International Outreach Department. She will continue International Outreach Chair and was just elected as Second Vice-President in charge of Membership for the next term.
Crow is married to Ernie Crow and they have two grown children and a grandson. Woman’s Club is a proud tradition in Crow’s family as her mother served many years in Senath Woman’s Club, and Crow and daughter Dr. Jenny Sarver are current members in Metamora Woman’s Club.
Crow has enjoyed meeting new folks in the club and participating in group activities such as the present Literary club and quilting and craft groups in the past. She especially loves working with the art and education projects and being part of a group that has worked hard to improve the community over the years.
A science teacher in Metamora Grade School until she retired in 2003, Crow was honored to be named the Illinois State Teacher of the Year for 2001.
Other activities over the years for this busy woman include Church of Christ membership, Book Club, Literary group, P.E.O., Sun Foundation, Illinois Science Teacher’s Association, Central Missouri Amateur Astronomers, Kappa Delta Pi, National Network of State Teachers of the Year, Woodford County Retired Teachers’ Association, Groundwater Education Committee, Council for Elementary Science Teachers and Metamora Community Concert Band.
Watch for Crow in the Old Settler’s Parade in June as the Metamora Woman’s Club proudly presents their 2013-2014 Woman of the Year.
