  • Netters’ earn perfect score in M-I

  • An undefeated Mid-Illini Conference season was wrapped up with one last victory, this time the title was at stake and Metamora walked away with a perfect score of 28.

    First place was earned across the board for the Redbird netters’. Morton did what they could in the finals of each section but came up short each time.

    Metamora senior Will Koehrsen won his fourth straight title in No. 1 singles in the M-I, the second player to ever do so. It was the third time for Metamora to secure a perfect win in the history of the M-I.
    Senior Mitchell Nguyen won his fourth title in doubles. He earned first in No. 1 doubles in 
    2011 and in No. 2 doubles in 2012 and 2013.
    Morton was behind in second place with 20 points and Dunlap was in third at 14.
    Koehrsen defeated Grant Reiman of Morton in the No. 1 singles for the second time this season in two sets. He won, 6-4, 6-3.
    Metamora sophomore Ryan Willard was the No. 2 singles champion with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Morton’s Troy Hohulin.
    Nguyen and freshman Fletcher Koehrsen paired together in the No. 1 doubles for a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Trent Reiman and Kyle King of Morton.
    Metamora seniors Tyler Ngo and Nick Becker were together in the No. 2 doubles for a 6-3, 6-2 win over Morton’s Chandler Stimpert and Mason Plotner.
