  • Lady Redbirds’ soccer fights for regional title

  • After a ground breaking regular season for the Metamora girls varsity soccer team, the Lady Redbirds worked their way up to sectionals.

    After a 5-0 victory against East Peoria in the regional semifinal game, the Lady Redbirds faced Morton for the regional title. After the victory over the Potters, Metamora traveled to United Township in Moline for the sectional semifinal but fell to Dunlap.

  • After a ground breaking regular season for the Metamora girls varsity soccer team, the Lady Redbirds worked their way up to sectionals.
    After a 5-0 victory against East Peoria in the regional semifinal game, the Lady Redbirds faced Morton for the regional title. After the victory over the Potters, Metamora traveled to United Township in Moline for the sectional semifinal but fell to Dunlap.
    Metamora 3, Morton 2
    The Lady Redbirds challenged Morton on the field once again this season, this time for the regional title.
    Metamora took the Mid-Illini Conference championship from Morton earlier this season after a 1-0 victory.
    Both teams came out hot but Metamora was victorious 3-2.
    An early goal by Peyton Roehnelt at 15:49 with an assist by Johnson.
    Johnson came through with another assist at 20:28 for Kari Lalumandier to put in the last goal of the first half.
    Morton’s Kayla McCormick got past the Metamora defense twice in the second in the 44th and 59th minute to tie it at two.
    Roehnelt scored the winning goal at 62:10 after a double assist by Rebecca Wipfler and Johnson.
    Metamora outshot Morton, 15-6. The Lady Redbird defense only allowed tow shots by Morton in the first and four in the second.
    Kate Keller was in the net for the 80 minutes and finished with three saves.
    Dunlap 2, Metamora 1
    In the sectional semifinals game, Metamora fell to M-I opponent Dunlap 2-1.
    The Lady Redbirds were able to pull off a 5-0 shutout over Dunlap earlier this season but couldn’t catch the momentum in post-season action.
    The Dunlap defense held Metamora to just two shots on goal and eight overall.
    Metamora put in the first goal at 31:23 from Sarah Waters with an assist by Lalumandier. 
    The Eagles quickly responded with the tying goal in the 35th minute and put in the game-winning goal nine minutes into the first half.
    Keller finished with two saves. Quinn Mathews had two shots and one on goal to finish the match.
    The Lady Redbirds season came to a close with a 12-4-1 record.
