Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $12.3 million for a major road improvement project on Allen Road on the north side of Peoria. The project will improve traffic flow and safety on Allen Road and surrounding streets. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“Soon motorists on Peoria’s north side will be able to get to their destinations more conveniently and safely,” Governor Quinn said. “This project will accommodate growth in the Peoria area, and will create jobs that will benefit the local economy.”
“I’m pleased that Governor Quinn made this project a priority,” Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis said. “Peoria is a city on the move, and this project will benefit anyone who lives, works or visits here.”
Allen Road and Alta Lane will be reconstructed from north of Townline Road to south of Alta Road. The work includes the reconstruction of a bridge over Illinois Route 6 and the construction of a tunnel for the Rock Island Trail. R.A. Cullinan & Son, a division of United Contractors Midwest, Inc. of Tremont was the lower of two bidders for the job with a quote of $12,356,385. Construction will begin this summer and will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
“The construction project on Allen Road is another example of the state’s commitment to the Peoria area,” State Senator Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) said. “These projects continue to make our roads and bridges safer and to create jobs throughout the region.”
“The reconstruction of Allen Road and Alta Lane is long overdue and will be of great benefit to the ever-expanding area of north Peoria County,” Senator Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) said. “Our area’s residents look forward to accessing Peoria and the surrounding area much more quickly and efficiently.”
The Allen Road project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
