  • Donald Sterling's wife Shelly has sold the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion, Reuters reports. The impressive sale is a record for a professional basketball team and is still awaiting approval from the NBA.
Following his lifetime ban from the NBA, Sterling gave Shelly sole control over the team, allowing her to sell it. "I am delighted that we are selling the team to Steve, who will be a terrific owner. We have worked for 33 years to build the Clippers into a premiere NBA franchise. I am confident that Steve will take the team to new levels of success," Shelly said in a statement from her legal counsel Greenberg Glusker.
How do these actors keep getting work?
Ballmer reportedly outbid David Geffen and Oprah Winfrey for the team. And though he is based in Seattle (which boasts no NBA team), Ballmer promised to keep the Clippers in Los Angeles.
"I will be honored to have my name submitted to the NBA Board of Governors for approval as the next owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. I love basketball," Ballmer said in a statement. "And I intend to do everything in my power to ensure that the Clippers continue to win — and win big — in Los Angeles."
