Edith E. Leonard will celebrate her 100th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the District 205 School Board Office, 932 Harrison St., Galesburg. Friends and family are invited; the family requests no gifts.

Edith Leonard was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Neponset to Carl and Anna Marie Anderson. She married Ernest Leonard on July 23, 1939. They had three children: Joyce Kimberley, deceased, Richard (and Judy) Leonard of Knoxville and Sharon (and Terry Langdon) of Monmouth.

She has five grandchildren, Tracey (and Tim) Blanchard of Pekin, Barry Langdon of Galesburg, Paulette Earp of Galesburg, Jenni (and Will) Moser of Gilson and Rich (and Ashle) Leonard of Galesburg; nine great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Her brother Anders Anderson is deceased.

She lived in Illinois all of her life, except for five years when she lived in Phoenix with her husband and son.

She graduated from Annawan High School and attended the School of Beauty Culture. She managed Fabs Fabric Store in Galesburg, worked at Doyle's Gift Shop, the beauty shop at O.T. Johnson's, a small hearing aid factory in Phoenix and retired from Galesburg Mental Health Center.

She resides with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoys knitting, crocheting, embroidery and other crafts, as well as gardening, canning and freezing.

She enjoys traveling with friends and family.

"If you're going to do something, do it well," she advised.
