The Pekin boys soccer team opened its season Monday on a sour note.
Visiting Bloomington beat the Dragons 5-0 in a non-conference game at Coal Miners Park.

"We started slowly and got behind early in the game. Playing with 26 total players for both varsity and JV against a decent side like Bloomington isn't an easy task," said Pekin coach Gus Kormah.

Ryan Flynn (1:50,17:43, assisted by Noah Masemore, 49:50,73:00) and Djibril Thiam (52:03) scored Bloomington's goals.

Bloomington had 12 shots on goal. Pekin freshman goalkeeper Mason McKnight made seven saves. Pekin had six shots on goal. Bloomington senior goalkeeper Xander Bosquez had six saves.

East Peoria played to a 1-1 tie with Chillicothe IVC and Dunlap and Moline tied 1-1 in other non-conference boys soccer season openers Monday.

TIGERS WIN: The Illini Bluffs boys golf team defeated Farmington 201-212 Monday on the par-36 front nine at Coyote Creek in Bartonville. Greenview/Athens had only two players compete, so it didn't have a team score.
Braden Bruninga (47), Jack Borland (47), Cam Scott (49) and Carson Teel (58) scored for the victorious Tigers.

GIRLS TENNIS: Washington beat Peoria Richwoods 8-1 and Normal Community defeated Metamora 8-1 Monday in non-conference girls tennis matches.

EAST PEORIA SCORES: Matthew Cox (79), Reid Johnson (80), Tanner Lang (80) and Dominick Hahn (83) scored for East Peoria on Saturday at the Coyote Creek Classic.

ONE GAME: There will be no junior varsity game Sept. 19 when East Peoria plays Canton in Mid-Illini Conference boys soccer. The varsity game will start at 6:30 p.m. at EastSide Centre.

BUSY COURSE: The East Peoria vs. Metamora Mid-Illini girls golf match Sept. 25 will be at Quail Meadows, East Peoria's home course, instead of Metamora Fields.

It will be a busy day at Quail Meadows, with boys and girls conference matches between East Peoria and Metamora and Morton and Washington.
