UnityPoint Health-Pekin is ready to show the community its new Cardiac Cath/Vascular Intervention Suite with its state of the art equipment and services.
The hospital will hold an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the suite, which is located in the Medical Imaging Department at the hospital. The Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 2 p.m.
UnityPoint Regional CEO Debbie Simon said the lab is an example of dedication to the community.
“We know that the people of Pekin expect high quality care that’s close to home, so we’ve put an emphasis not just on the quality of care, but ease of access and convenience for our patients,” said Simon. “The new Cardiac Cath/Vascular Intervention Suite is a great example of that because it’s the same friendly and highly trained staff, now with access to leading technology in a space that’s designed to be easier to use.”
Use of the new $1.3 million facility started several weeks ago, said Laura Locke, UnityPoint Health senior media relations specialist. The cost included renovations and new equipment. The existing staff received on-site and off-site training in the use of the new equipment. There were no additional hires. The new state-of-the-art technology includes a Dual Plane Toshiba Imaging system designed specifically for cardiac and vascular interventions cases and a new Hemodynamics patient monitoring system, according to a UnityPoint Health press release.
The new lab is close to the former lab, but is much larger. New changing rooms were added, “a much more user-friendly space for physicians and staff, as well as a much more comfortable experience for the patient,” said Locke.
Among the procedures performed in the new suite will be vascular intervention, permanent pacemaker placement, angiography and diagnostic cardiac catheterizations.
UnityPoint also has several projects either in progress or just completed.
The new medical office building on Veterans Drive will be complete in early 2018. The space that served previously as the cath lab will be renovated for updated CT imaging.
UnityPoint Health also added urology services as part of ProHealth Medical Group, two new IV prep rooms at the hospital pharmacy and new air handlers that serve the surgery suites and cath lab. Air handlers are the equipment that help control temperature, humidity and air circulation in the surgical suites. The air handlers should come online in the next few weeks.
