The Pekin boys soccer team is fit to be tied these days.

In the Dragons’ last five games, they’ve played three ties.

The latest two were back-to-back. After Pekin and visiting Galesburg battled to a scoreless tie Saturday at Coal Miners Park, the Dragons and host East Peoria played to a 1-1 deadlock in a Mid-Illini Conference game Tuesday at EastSide Centre.

The tie with Galesburg ended a busy week in which Pekin played four games, went undefeated (2-0-2), and didn’t allow a goal. The Dragons tied Metamora and Galesburg and beat Peoria Christian and Olympia.

“Metamora, Peoria Christian and Galesburg were favored to beat us,” said Pekin coach Gus Kormah. “I’m proud of our boys for what they accomplished last week.”

Pekin goalie Jon Haller made six saves against Galesburg. Kyler Smith, the Galesburg goalie, made four saves.

The tie with East Peoria wasn’t a great result for the Dragons, who trailed 1-0 at halftime on a goal by the Raiders’ Cooper Walden at 25:27. Pekin’s Ethan Sandoval countered with a penalty-kick goal at 46:15.

“That was one of our worst games this season. We were lucky to get that result,” said Kormah, who noted that his team was missing a couple of starters.

Haller made three saves against East Peoria. Raiders goalie Brock Bell had four saves.
