PEORIA — Two different Peoria residents called police about identical telephone threats Monday afternoon.

According to two police reports, both people found the following message on their answering machines:

“$10,000 kill you I advise you to take this message seriously. If you value your life sense this is not a joke or a scam. My people have been following you around for a few days and you may have noticed my people on the street following you. Do not contact the police or tell anyone else or I will kill people extended to your family.”

After the message ended, a telephone number was provided with instructions to make payment, according to the police report.

Neither victim had had any trouble with anyone recently, the police reports said. And neither victim — one was 72 and one was 53 — was out any money, the report said.

The responding officer called the number and spoke to a man with an accent who gave the officer his name. The man hung up when the officer asked where he was located, the report said.

The incidents are being investigated.
