When Advocate Eureka Hospital employees met March 16 to dedicate the new building housing the Advocate Medical Group there was more than the present on the minds of some gathered there.

Colleen Kannaday, president of Advocate Bromenn Medical Center and Advocate Eureka Hospital was there. She made some remarks about a strategic planning session that had recently occurred. The effort, she said, was designed to discuss what more can be done at Advocate Eureka Hospital to serve the community and surrounding area.

Standing next to Kannaday was Anna Laible, Advocate Eureka Hospital administrator. She smiled and nodded as Kannaday spoke.

The Woodford Times was able to speak with Laible recently about those plans. She spoke in broad terms because the work is still ongoing.

Laible said she is excited to be involved in the strategic planning process under way. She has worked at the hospital for 21years, the last five as administrator.

“We’ve started looking strategically with the executive group. We’ve met with the doctors and expanded our discussions to the staff,” Laible said.

“We’re just starting to get input. It is important all employees are involved. They are the ones working everyday with the patients. Our mission is to provide the best health care our patients and families need in the most cost-effective manner possible.”

She continued, “Obviously, we don’t have the physical resources to do everything. We have a staff, however, in tune with our patients. Our staff is close to the community.”

She did say the hospital’s clinical programs are an area of focus.

“We want to see if there are opportunities to bring in clinics. We’re also working on community outreach. We’re looking at who we can partner with. We are reaching out to our faith community,” Laible said.

Unlike any entities who do strategic planning the hospital is not trying to look 10 or 20 years into the future.

“As a hospital we only look three years out,” she said. “Health care changes so rapidly. Then we will have to look at the strategic plan, when completed, every year.”

Laible said she hopes the process will be completed in less than two months.

“We have been working on it since the beginning of March. This is a fast-moving process. We’re still in the data gathering stage,” Laible said.

“Being current is our mission. It’s our purpose. Eureka Hospital has been here for 100 years. I’d like to see it here for 100 more.”
