A high school senior from the one of the six Woodford County High Schools will win the chance for a $500 cash scholarship and a dinner date with an elected official this spring.

Woodford County Republicans are offering  a $500 cash “Woodford County Heritage Scholarship.”

Some requirements are an essay, a letter from a local civic leader and an interview. The idea of having young people look closer at how our governing system works is behind the scholarship.

All of the six finalists will be invited to dine with the elected officials at the annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner Feb. 10, 2012.

The overall winner of the essay and scholarship will read their composition at the dinner.

The dinner will have senators, representatives, and many of Woodford County's elected officials in attendance.

Senators Darrin LaHood and Shane Cultra have purchased tables and will invite a student to dine at their table.

Many Woodford County officials also will be inviting one of the six finalists to dine with them.

Complete instructions and an application can be secured from your high school guidance counselor.

All applications should be mailed to Ronda Cross at the  Woodford County Regional Superintendents office by Dec. 28.

The address is: 117 S. Jefferson St.

P.O. Box 340

Washburn, Ill. 61570.
