Eureka - James A. Hewitt, 81, of Eureka, died at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Born Feb. 14, 1930, in Eureka, to Melvin and Grace Boughton Hewitt, he married Joanne Musselman April 10, 1949, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Bob (Jane) Hewitt of Morton; Tim Hewitt of Eureka; Tom (Shani) Hewitt of Toledo, Ohio; three daughters, Nancy Conley of Peoria; Connie (Randy) Grusy of Eureka; Sherri (Jerrold) Moxley of Eureka; two sisters, Mary Grace (Stan) Wertz of Eureka; Kay (David) Traver of Maumee, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law, John Conley and one sister, Beverly Littrell.
An Army veteran, he served his country during the Korean War.
James was known as the "Faithful Worker". He worked many various jobs in the Eureka area.
He was a past deacon and member of Liberty Bible Church in Eureka where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. The Rev. Tom Zobrist will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at Liberty Bible Church and from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church on Wednesday before the service. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery where military rites will be accorded at the grave.
