I have lived in Germantown Hills for just less than eight years.
Like my neighbors I got the yellow printout rubberbanded to my front door last Saturday. I read it with a neighbor.
I believe you need to run a correction regarding your article about the $141,000 spent on attorney’s fees.
I was elected in 2009 by the people of Germantown Hills. My election told me the people wanted change from the old political machine that our Village Board had become. That change happened.
Think twice about backyard chicken coops
Nearly all chickens in the U.S. come from large hatcheries that operate much like puppy mills.
The “Look, It’s My Book!” editorial on Jan. 20 was fantastic.
Lack of comprehension may be to blame. Politics is not.
A small but vocal segment of Peoria County residents are upset with the county’s Board of Review.
Why?
Because personal feelings and politics no longer factor into the decision making process. Rather, the current board bases its decisions on the evidence presented by property owners during the appeals process. If the evidence does not support a decrease in assessed value, then a decrease will not be granted. Frustrating? Sure, if you’re not used to being told “no.”
It has always been my understanding that property taxes should be based off the fair market value of your home and that figure is derived from what your home would bring on the open market.
This is not how the current system works.
Four years ago I stood looking down a road. A van was taking my son to deliver him to the United States Marine Corps.
I’m sure many have heard of a grass-roots effort called the Pickens' Plan.
This effort is spearheaded by wealthy industrialist T. Boone Pickens who sees a problem with America's energy policy.
Editor,
As I looked out of the window of my North Peoria home at the recently freshly fallen snow I was taken back to my childhood.
It occurred to me that most folks that read the Lifestyles section in a newspaper are treated to beautiful pictures and descriptions of large incredibly furnished and decorated homes. Many of those houses are the envy of the neighborhood, and are truly part of the American dream.
Your editorial regarding past tough times was excellent.
However, as a “Depression-Era Baby,” let me assure you that our present problems are more serious than the Crash of ‘29 and the Depression of the ‘30s.
Generic medications can be a viable alternative for some epilepsy patients. Those who are seeing good results from a particular formulation of a drug should remain on that formulation, whether it be generic or brand-name.
However, the decision to switch a patient to a different formulation should be left to the physician rather than to a well-meaning pharmacist attempting to save a patient money, or to an insurance company understandably looking to reduce costs.
A key race this election is for the 92nd District Representative between Joan Krupa and Jehan Gordon.
I don't know Ms. Gordon but have tried to learn about her qualifications from reading the paper, her fliers, and seeing her TV ads. She appears to be a person without much experience. Her material seems to over emphasize what she is against not what she stands for or will do.
Former Peoria County official comes out for Gordon
Jehan Gordon is this retired teacher's choice.
Colleen Callahan has this woman's vote.
