The Eureka volleyball team is planning to help raise awareness for Down Syndrome when the Hornets host Deer Creek-Mackinaw on Tuesday night.
After participating in Volley for the Cure and other charitable matches, coach Tracy Heffren wanted to do something different — something that had an impact on her team and community.
“I thought (about) what in our community and on our team is something that affects us in our everyday lives,” Heffren said. “And with Maddie (McCunn’s) brother, Justin (who has Down Syndrome), I thought about it a couple years ago. I thought, ‘what about her senior year.’”
Eureka will wearing the Down Syndrome colors of royal blue and yellow. There will be a bake sale and donations will be accepted for the HOI Down Syndrome Association.
“That is an association that the McCunn’s and other families within our school district use or rely on for what that association does for the Down Syndrome families,” Heffren said.
