All events tee off at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Top three teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams advance to sectionals.
At Rock Island
Site: Arsenal Island Golf Club
Area school: Pekin
Outlook: The Normal schools — West and Community — aren’t as strong this year, opening the way for a tough Dragons squad to qualify for the sectionals. Pekin — led by Jack Halstead, Mason Ghidina and Mason Minkel — has been playing well of late, most recently finishing a close second to Morton in the Mid-Illini meet Thursday.
Up next: Flossmoor Sectional at Balmoral Woods Golf Course, Crete, Oct. 9.
Site: Macomb Country Club
Area schools: Limestone, Canton, Dunlap, Galesburg, Peoria High, Manual, Notre Dame, Richwoods.
Outlook: Notre Dame and Richwoods are fresh from tying for second place in the Big 12 tournament and should be among the top finishers. The Knights are led by Caleb Stevenson and Peyton Perez, while the Irish’s best players have been Mikey Wales, Zach Buscher and Sam Newton. Other team contenders are expected to be Dunlap, Galesburg, Canton and Limestone. Top players from each school are Matt Leist and Tony Cebuhar from Dunlap, Luke Watson and Owen Hawkins from Galesburg, Garrett Brant and Jackson Gray from Canton and Brock Kumlander and Joe Opper from Limestone.
Up next: Champaign Central Sectional at U of I Golf Course, Orange Course, Savoy, Oct. 9.
Site: Metamora Fields
Area schools: IVC, East Peoria, Metamora, Morton, Olympia, Washington.
Outlook: Mid-Illini Conference champion Morton should have no trouble advancing, but with defending Class 2A champion Normal U-High and emerging Washington in the field, first place will be a challenge. Led by Tommy Kuhl, who medaled in the league meet Thursday, the Potters have the depth for a strong run at state. If any of the top three falter, there should be a real battle for the final team sectional qualifier among East Peoria, IVC and Metamora. Some top individuals include Matthew Cox and Reid Johnson from East Peoria, Cody Sedlacek, Brett Coughlin and Adam Kinsinger from Washington and Hunter Mettille from IVC.
Up next: Champaign Central Sectional at U of I Golf Course, Orange Course, Savoy, Oct 9.
Kewanee and LaSalle-Peru are the area teams competing in the Mendota Regional at Mendota Golf Club.
Site: Coyote Creek, Bartonville
Area schools: Brimfield, Elmwood, Eureka, Farmington, Illini Bluffs, Havana, Midwest Central, Illini Central, Peoria Christian, Peoria Heights, Tremont.
Outlook: Cole Cox and Isaak Ramsey make Peoria Christian the favorite although the difficult course can make the outcome unpredictable. The pair led the Chargers to a third-place finish at state last year. PC is coming off a Tri-County Conference championship. Look for Tremont, Brimfield, Illini Bluffs and Farmington to also contend.
Up next: Havana Sectional at Crane Creek Golf Course, Kilbourne, Oct. 9.
