Summary: Pekin got off to a good start Thursday in its non-conference baseball game at Bloomington. The Dragons scored three runs in the first inning and led 3-0 going into the bottom of the third. Then the bottom fell out. The Purple Raiders scored five runs in the third off losing pitcher Casey Hollan and kept adding to their lead.

Big innings: Three of Pekin’s eight hits came in the first inning. Karson Thomas and Matt Tharp each had an RBI single and Nick Campbell had a single. Bloomington had five of its 11 hits in the third along with a hit batter.

Bloomington bats: Ben Niebur (two doubles, two RBI) and Tyler Stewart (three RBI) were among Bloomington’s top hitters.

Delay: The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but postponed a day because of rain.
