The choice was obvious.

Pekin’s Julian Hill won two events and finished second in two others April 29 at the 29th annual Dragon Invitational boys track and field meet at Memorial Stadium and was named the Kouri’s Pekin Times Star of the Meet by the Times sports staff.

Hill won long jump (22.4-5) and the 100 (:11.25) and he was second in triple jump (43-4) and the 200 (:22.57) in his maximum four events.

The junior scored 36 of Pekin’s 74 points and was the meet’s lone winner of multiple individual events.

“Julian is a heck of an athlete,” said Pekin coach Eric McCann. “Plus, he’s very coachable and willing to try anything.”

The triple jump is a good example. Hill has competed in the event only four times and is already only four inches away from the 42-year-old Pekin school record of 43-8 set by Gary Lawler in 1974.

Hill will receive a $25 gift card to Kouri’s Pub on Court Street for being named Star of the Meet.
